Suite de "L'enfant des neiges". Marie-Hermine, surnommée le Rossignol de Val-Jalbert parce qu'elle possède un don pour le chant, coule des jours heureux avec son époux métis Toshan et leur enfant, mais a pour cela renoncé à sa passion. Cependant tout est remis en question lorsque la jeune femme retrouve son père alors qu'elle chantait pour les tuberculeux du sanatorium. Toshan, lui, a du mal à s'adapter à une vie policée.
